Tribute to the lexicographer, María Moliner

#100 major words

We decided to knock on the door of Great Friends because one of our volunteers wanted to pay tribute to the lexicographer María Moliner, and to all the older people who have contributed so much to society. To this end, at the LLYC Foundation we want to launch an intergenerational exchange campaign with words as the “object of transaction” that would serve, on the one hand, to raise awareness of the active role of the Elderly in our society and, on the other, as a lever to recruiting new volunteers for Great Friends.

Thus, the 100 Major Words project consists of two phases: recording and accompaniment, and digital campaign.

Impact.

In 6 months, 189 more volunteers signed up for Great Friends; we impacted a total of 789 older people; we raised awareness about loneliness and the elderly through media such as Onda Cero, La Vanguardia, Europa Press and RTVE; we got the participation of influencers like Julia Otero and the project was announced on Informativos Telecinco

"This project is not just about recovering words. There is another problem. Older people find it increasingly difficult to find someone to tell their stories to. They are increasingly finding themselves living alone. They cope with admirable dignity and optimism, of course, because they know how to express themselves and excitement is the last thing to be lost. Who knows what goes through their heads when they open their front door and invariably smile. So the problem of ignoring them, obviously, is ours. We forget about the richest and best social media we have at our fingertips. The Amigos de los Mayores are there to remind us."
